Marriage
Just posted on Taki Mag. Edited a little.
'marriage' is neither 'between a man and a woman' nor 'not between a man and woman'.
'Marriage' properly means in this human couples sense a pair 'joined by god'.
This according to some old texts.
This gives the religions an in to insert their people and bestow on them the authority - should be in quotes, that: 'authority' - to 'sanctify' this fact.
To my mind those whom god has joined together let no man put asunder and let no man pretend to do the joining nor to 'sanctify' the joining, nor to vet the joining nor in any way interfere in what goes on between god and his/her people.
i.e. marriage is a fact like entangled electrons, not a ceremony, not an entry in a register, not a 'right', not a 'privilege', not even a topic for discussion.
some people are married in this sense and some are not. and there's nothing anyone including themselves can do about it.
that's all the religious side of it.
then there's the 'State' side of it. Bureaucracy. This is nothing more than an entry in a register and commensurate obligations and rights.
Basically nothing more than a register.
Such registers can be constructed instanter and can register anything you wish.
Access to the 'rights and obligations' afforded names on one register can be allowed to people on an entirely different register. It is no problem. These registers are not mutually exclusive.
Hence all the furore about this 'marriage' thing is unnecessary, ill informed, and a mega waste of time and money.
